
| Publications People and Planning Magazine Launch Ceremony and International Forum on Chinese Urbanization and Planning APA will launch its Chinese-language magazine, People and Planning, in Shanghai. The opening ceremony will be held in conjunction with an international forum on Chinese urbanization and planning. Officials and senior planners from Chinese government, faculty from Chinese planning schools, and American planners will discuss land-use planning, transportation, and urban design in a three-day workshop series that promotes the magazine as well as American planning history, philosophy, and practices. Chinese urbanization and development is unprecedented in human history. China currently has thousands of cities and municipalities, with more than 40,000 professional planners. Real estate is booming and living standards, especially in urban areas, are increasing rapidly. APA's Chinese language magazine will speak to this broad audience. People and Planning introduces American cities, culture, planning, and design to Chinese officials, planners, developers, academia, and citizens about the value and choices of good planning and design. It showcases post-industrialization society with quality of life and sense of community. It demonstrates sensible use of resource and positive lifestyle of sustainability. It promotes responsible American business in planning, architecture, landscape, construction, development, infrastructure, materials, utilities, technology and management. The launching ceremony will be held in the international forum on Chinese urbanization and planning. A three-day workshop series will address Chinese land-use regulation and planning, transportation and sustainability, and urban design guidelines and implementation for Chinese and American audiences. Exhibits of American businesses and Chinese government programs will be open to the public. The magazine will issue its first special issue in 2006 and publish quarterly beginning in 2007.
