China-related Programs at the National Planning Conference

This year, the APA National Planning Conference offers many opportunities for you to learn about planning and design in China. The APA China Program invites you to:

  • Meet dignitaries from Chinese Planning Associations
  • Network with 40 Chinese developers
  • Learn about U.S. Department of Commerce and APA assistance for firms to work in China
  • Get familiar with sustainability issues in the context of Chinese urbanization and industrialization

The following dignitaries and guests will be invited to the following events:

Opening Reception (P001)

Sunday, 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Location/Room: La Villita

The historic downtown village of La Villita is host to this year's opening reception, A Night in Old San Antonio. La Villita, Spanish for "little village," has a history dating back to the mid 1800s. Join your APA colleagues and experience the shops and booths representing the diverse cultures, customs, and cuisines of the city in several heritage-themed areas. Flaco Jimenez will headline the entertainment. Enjoy a memorable evening as you launch a week of planning education. A ticket is included for registrants in all categories. Additional tickets may be purchased for $65. Children under the age of 12 will be admitted free.


Sustainable Development in Chinese Cities (S471)

Sunday, 4:00 PM to 5:15 PM
Location/Room: HBG Center Room 207 A

Take a provocative and thoughtful look at sustainable development issues related to the growth of China's modern cities. By comparing Chinese and American planning, energy, and environmental policies, the presentation provides a glimpse of future challenges for the U.S. and the world. CPD Credits: 1.5

Get on the Fast Track to China (S698)

Commerce Department officials discuss market strategies, case studies, and federal assistance available to American businesses interested in working in China. Chinese experts provide analyses and insights on the Chinese national agenda and how U.S. firms can leverage these policies to work effectively in China. An award will be presented in this session. CPD Credits: 1.5

China Night Banquet

(from Riverwalk, walk south along Alamo St., passing Hemisfair Park, 7-8 blocks further south)

This banquet provides an opportunity for networking with Chinese dignitaries and developers in the arena of Chinese urbanization. Share business insights, academic research, and professional development with fellow American planners.

Awards honor planning landmarks and pioneers, journalists and students, citizens and professionals who have achieved excellence and helped to improve the quality of life in numerous communities. One ticket is included with full registration.
