Introduction to the Planning Commission: Part One

Part One introduces the concept, principles, and practice of planning. Planners discuss who does planning, within what framework of government decision making     context, and legal foundation. Panelists next discuss decision making and the powers and duties of the commission. Highlights include information on ethics and meeting conduct, as well as on how to reach and record decisions. The third segment focuses on the comprehensive plan and its elements. This is amplified by an overview of special plans and overall policy integration. Finally, the discussion turns to the development review process. This includes a concise overview of growth management, design and site review, and concludes with a summary of the legal issues related to the review process.

To attend only the live program, register for Option A.

To train staff members or commissioners who cannot attend the live program, order Option B and receive a CD-ROM of the conference. The CD-ROM contains:

  • Audio recording synchronized with the PowerPoint presentation
  • Transcript of the program
  • Supplemental reading materials

The CD-ROM is mailed to you six to eight weeks after the program. The CD-ROM is Mac and PC compatible.
