The Nomination Process

The following details the steps it takes to submit a nomination for a National Planning Award.

  1. Identify the appropriate award category. Read the eligibility requirements to ensure your nomination satisfies the criteria.
  2. Read the requirements section to learn what you will need to complete the nomination form.
  3. Nominations must be submitted online through the APA website.
  4. Use one form for each nomination. You may only enter a plan, project or tool in one award category per year. For example: You may not enter your plan in the Daniel Burnham Award for a Comprehensive Plan category and then enter the same plan in the Public Outreach category.

You do not have to win a chapter or division award to be eligible for the National Planning Award.

How to Submit a Nomination

  • Click on the nomination link (active only during the submission window).
  • You will be prompted to log in to start your form.
  • Use your APA ID, if you already have one, or create an ID.
  • You may submit a nomination form on behalf of someone else (using this person's name as the nominator).
  • If you wish to start the nomination form and return later, you must log in using the same ID and password when you return.

The nominator of your award entry must be an APA member to qualify for the APA member entry rate.
