But new approaches are producing strong results. Learn how to manage stormwater, mitigate flood hazards, and make your community more resilient at this vital PTS workshop.
Practicing planners, researchers, and an engineer explore design issues, financing mechanisms, future challenges, and the role of planners in safeguarding their communities. Presentations, case studies, group discussions, and a hands-on planning exercise make this workshop engaging and essential.

Instructors: Julia Burrows Julia Burrows Greenwise Joint Venture Burrows is president of Greenwise Joint Venture, a Sacramento Valley nonprofit focused on the green economy. Previously, she was deputy city manager and economic development manager for the City of Roseville, California, where she promoted local and regional sustainability. She is a charter member of the Green Capital Alliance Shana Udvardy Shana Udvardy Consultant Udvardy works with members of Congress, government agencies, and other decision makers to advocate for 21st-century flood-control solutions that increase natural resilience against flood disasters. Focused on the Mississippi River basin, she has coordinated with field efforts in California, the Mid-Atlantic, and the Pacific Northwest. Timothy J. Trautman Timothy J. Trautman Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services Trautman is a flood mitigation program manager for Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. He oversees capital improvement projects addressing streambank stabilization, stream restoration, and flood control. His projects include a $14.6 million program to remove 118 structures from the FEMA-regulated floodplain. James Schwab AICP James Schwab, AICP American Planning Association Schwab is a senior research associate and manager of APA's Hazards Planning Research Center.
