More Instructors: Matthew Mendoza is a partner in the law firm of Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP,
where he is an experienced business and commercial litigator. His practice is focused primarily
in the areas of insurance coverage, construction, business claims, products liability and toxic tort
litigation. Mr. Mendoza is experienced in all aspects of litigation, and he represents clients
regularly in state and federal courts, as well as negotiations, mediations and arbitrations. In
addition to his dispute resolution work, he also counsels clients in connection with transactions
that involve insurance coverage and/or construction issues. Mr. Mendoza earned his B.A. degree,
summa cum laude, from Kent State University; and his J.D. degree, with honors, from The Ohio
State University Moritz College of Law. Andrew Natale is a founding member and partner of the law firm of Frantz Ward LLP,
where he manages the firm’s construction law practice. Mr. Natale devotes 100% of his practice
area to construction, representing general contractors, design/builders, subcontractors, specialty
trades, suppliers, manufacturers, developers, lenders, owners, and design professionals in all
aspects of construction law, including arbitration, mediation, and complex commercial litigation.
He has extensive experience with construction-related litigation, mediation, arbitration, claims
management, claims avoidance, insurance coverage, and contract negotiation. From 2003-
present, Mr. Natale has been recognized as a top-level “Leading Lawyer” in construction counsel
by Chambers USA, as well as an “Ohio Super Lawyer”. From 2010-present, he has been listed in
Best Lawyers of America; In 2012, Best Lawyers published him as one of Cleveland's best
lawyers and named him "2012 Cleveland Construction Law Lawyer of the Year". Serving as a
distinguished Blue-Ribbon panel member of the Construction Industry Arbitrators and Mediators
for the American Arbitration Association since 1993, Mr. Natale received the Association’s 2000
Golden Gavel Award recognizing his distinguished service in the construction alternative dispute
resolution community. He served as chairman of the Construction Advisory Council for the
American Arbitration Association from 1999 - 2000, and served as a member of the Advisory
Council through 2005. Mr. Natale is a frequent lecturer on a variety of construction law topics
including mechanics’ lien and bond law, construction claims and liability theories, claims
management and avoidance, project and claim documentation, competitive bidding, schedule
issues, alternative dispute resolution, design professional liability, construction defects, and he is
certified by AGC to teach BIM courses. He is a member of the Ohio Contractors’ Association,
the Construction Employers’ Association, American Bar Association’s Forum on the
Construction Industry, the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, the American Arbitration
Association, the Surety Association of Ohio, and the ALFA International Global Legal Network.
Mr. Natale is admitted to practice law in Ohio state courts, and before the U.S. District Court for
the Northern District of Ohio, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, the U.S.
Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. He also is admitted
to the AAA Panel of Construction Industry Neutrals, including Large Complex Case Neutrals.
Mr. Natale earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton and his J.D. degree
from the University of Cincinnati College of Law. Russell O'Rourke is a founding member of O'Rourke & Associates Co., L.P.A., where
the primary focus of his practice is the representation of businesses related to the construction
industry, devoting a substantial amount of time to contract negotiation, on the job dispute
resolution, arbitration, mediation, litigation, mechanics' liens, and bond claims. He has been a
regular speaker on construction law topics for numerous trade organizations, including the
Builders Exchange of Cleveland, the Mechanical and Plumbers Industry Council, the Electrical
League of Ohio, the Construction Employers Association, the Door and Hardware Institute, the
American Arbitration Association, and the Ohio State Bar Association. Mr. O'Rourke has been a
lecturer at Lakeland Community College in the areas of business and real estate law. He wrote
the book Ohio Mechanics' Liens and Materialmen's Liens, 3rd Edition. After being a director for
two terms, Mr. O'Rourke is now the vice president of the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the
American Subcontractor's Association (ASA) and also its chapter attorney; a board member of
the Ohio Subcontractors' Council; member of the national ASA Attorneys' Counsel; and has been
elected to a second term as board member of the national ASA. He is an active member of the
American Bar Association-Construction Law Forum and Builders Exchange. Mr. O'Rourke
earned his B.A. degree from the University of Vermont and his J.D. degree from Cleveland-
Marshall College of Law. Nicholas Papleacos is a shareholder at the Atlanta law firm of Chamberlain,
Hrdlicka, White, Williams & Aughtry. He maintains a national construction law practice,
representing specialty trade contractors including those involved in coatings, mechanical and
electrical work, as well as general contractor clients. Mr. Papleacos has represented contractors
in disputes throughout the country, in state and federal court trials, and in arbitration
proceedings. He has more than 30 years experience in construction law and litigation, as well as
significant experience in employment law and the law of eminent domain. Mr. Papleacos is an
instructor on construction law in the construction management department at Southern
Polytechnic State University. He earned his A.B. degree from Harvard College and his J.D.
degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. Mr. Papleacos is a member of the
