2012 RRRC Annual Meeting - Keynote LectureRappahannock-Rapidan Regional CommissionCulpeper, VA Come hear 2012 Keynote Dr. Allan Wallis, Associate Professor of Public Policy, University of Colorado Denver, speak on the topic "The Challenges and Payoffs of Regional Cooperation." Of interest to planners, elected officials, economic development directors, and everyone interested in the vitality and competitiveness of their communities and quality of life, this promises to be another highly informative installment in the popular RRRC Annual Meeting keynote series. Among other highlights of the evening are the opportunity to meet with state and local elected officials, network with area planners, planning commissioners, local government, non-profit and business community, along with presentation of the 2012 Regional Distinguished Leadership - Citizen and Government Awards.
Instructors: Jeffrey Walker AICP Executive Director with the Regional Commission since 2000, Mr. Walker brings to the proceeding a broad background in local and regional land use, transportation and environmental planning, and Main Street/community revitalization expertise. A member
of the American Institute of Certified Planners, graduate of the Virginia Natural Resource Leadership Institute, and recipient of a 2008 McCloy Fellowship in Urban Affairs, he is currently Secretary/Treasurer of the APA Regional and Intergovernmental Planning Division, and past 2nd VP (Board) and Transportation Committee Chair of the Virginia Association of Planning District Commissions (VAPDC). Mr. Walker has a Master's in Urban
and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia, and since 2010, and Adjunct Faculty member in the Department of Geography at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, where he teaches a seminar on regional planning and leads a spring break study abroad program. Allan Wallis PhD Allan Wallis is an Associate Professor of Public Policy at the School of Public Affairs, University of Colorado Denver, where he directs the concentration in local government. He currently teaches courses in leadership and ethics, urban policy, growth management policy, and innovation in public management. He has also taught courses in architecture, city planning and urban design. An active researcher, Dr. Wallis focuses his work on emerging forms of metropolitan regional governance, leadership development, and methods for improving collaboration among nonprofit organizations. He has authored numerous articles, book chapters, and a book-Wheel Estate: the Rise and Decline of Mobile Homes. He is currently working on a metropolitan regionalism project in South Florida and Chicago under a grant from the MacArthur Foundation. Professor Wallis holds a Bachelors in Architecture from The Cooper Union, a Master of Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Psychology from the Graduate School of the City University of New York.
