Technical Assessment of State Pedestrian Safety Programs WebinarHighway Safety Research CenterChapel Hill, NC Free event The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center (PBIC) are pleased to announce this webinar about technical assessments of state pedestrian safety programs, and the results of an assessment conducted in Florida.

During the assessment, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) organizes a team of pedestrian and highway safety experts that evaluate State pedestrian safety program activities based on NHTSA's Uniform Guidelines for State Highway Safety (No. 14, Pedestrian Safety). The team develops a consensus report that includes the current status of the State's pedestrian safety program and provides recommendations for improvement.
Come hear about the most recent State Pedestrian Safety Program Technical Assessment conducted in Florida. Panelists will discuss the process involved in planning and implementing an Assessment, the Assessment Report and direct benefits to the Assessment process. Leah Walton (NHTSA) and Trenda McPherson (Florida Department of Transportation) will lead the presentation.
At the conclusion of the webinar, both speakers will be available for questions and discussion.
More Instructors: Leah Walton Leah has been with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) since November 2006, working as a Highway Safety Specialist on pedestrian and pupil transportation safety countermeasures in the Research and Program Development office. Leah serves as the agency expert in pedestrian safety programs, and serves as a safety liaison for the DOT Internal Livability Workgroup, and the DOT Health and Transportation Workgroup. Prior to her employment with NHTSA, Leah worked on underage drinking programs for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) at the national and state levels. Trenda McPherson Trenda McPherson is the Bicycle/Pedestrian Safety Program Manager for the Florida Department of Transportation.
Trenda has served in the Highway Safety Office since January 2005. She began as Florida’s Motorcycle Safety Program Coordinator where she led the development and implementation of Florida’s Motorcycle Strategic Safety Plan and Florida’s Motorcycle Safety Coalition. In her spare time, Trenda also coordinated the the Roadway Safety, Older Driver, and Community Traffic Safety Programs.
She was promoted to her current position in May, 2012 and is currently charged with developing and implementing Florida’s first Pedestrian Strategic Safety Plan and Pedestrian Coalition.
Trenda is the co-chair of the vulnerable road user emphasis area for Florida’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan, serves on Florida’s Motorcycle Safety Coalition, Florida’s Safe Mobility for Life Coalition, Florida’s Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council, Florida’s Emergency Medical Services for Children Advisory Council, Florida’s Committee on Trauma, and on Florida’s Public Information, Education, and Relations Committee.
Prior to joining FDOT, Trenda managed the Federal Grant Compliance Team at Florida State University.
