Design Tools for Non-Design ProfessionalsUC Davis ExtensionSacramento, CA In the increasingly digital world, professionals must be adept at using graphic materials to simply and quickly communicate complex ideas and data to a wide variety of audiences. From infographics and interactive maps to graphically sophisticated reports and documents, having a strong foundation in design theory and visual communication skills is critical.
This course provides an overview of practical graphic design and visual communication tools and gives an introduction to Adobe InDesign, one of the most widely used design programs. Students will learn basic skills to create eye-catching and attractive products including reports, graphics and pamphlets.
More Instructors: Amber Hawkes AICP Amber Hawkes , AICP is an urban designer and Associate at Melendrez Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, and Planning in Los Angeles, managing several of the firms vision planning and multi-modal streetspace redesigns. She holds a lecturer position at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, where she teaches a course on Visual Communication for Urban Planners. Ms Hawkes speaks at conferences and universities about visual communication and the links between urban design and urban planning, with publications in design and planning related fields. Georgia Sheridan AICP Georgia Sheridan , AICP is a planner in the Long Range Planning and Mobility Division at the City of West Hollywood. She is currently managing the city's Bicycle and Pedestrian Mobility Plan. Previous to working in the public sector, Ms. Sheridan worked for several years as a consultant for Torti Gallas, an architecture and planning firm, managing urban design, transportation, and community development projects. Ms. Sheridan teaches a graduate course in Visual Communication at UCLA's Luskin School of Public Affairs. She has written several articles on street design for the popular website Planetizen and is a frequent speaker at national planning and design conferences. (0 Ratings)
