Mount and ride a bicycle from the meetings convention center to and through the park to see first hand how the bicycle mode has been adapted and the challenges where the parkland is traversed by roadways. Riding with you will be knowledgeable representatives of the various community groups that have helped to preserve and adapt the parkland and its accessibility. The parks offer a seven-mile trip from the historic center of Boston through a dozen neighborhoods and nine distinct parks that offer a full range of experiences from arboretum to zoo. The Emerald Necklace Bike tour will give riders a chance to sample some of these diverse experiences.
The Emerald Necklace is an urban oasis consisting of an 1,100 acre-chain of parks linked by parkways and waterways in Boston and Brookline, MA. It is a seven mile long greenspace that traverses many neighborhoods and provides a get away from the bustle of the 21st most populous city in the U.S. Adjacent to and/or passing through it daily are significant car, pedestrian and bicycle commuters. It's neighbors include universities, The Museum of Fine Arts, offices and residences. Designed more than 100 years ago by world renowned Landscape Archtichet Frederick Law Olmstead, the park system has survived and adapted to serve as one of the city's cherished amenities.
