Improving Connectivity and System Function through Local PlanningAPA Pennsylvania ChapterMilford, PA PennDOT’s new handbook on “Improving Connectivity and System Function through Local Planning” provides guidance to municipalities on how to enhance vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian connectivity. This companion training offers an overview of the handbook and includes strategies to effectively regulate and manage a connected transportation network within a community including a review of connectivity index calculations and model ordinance language.
Instructors: Steve Deck AICP
Steve Deck has 29 years of experience in transportation planning and policy, all levels of NEPA analyses, and a wide range of municipal planning efforts. He has provided training in the areas of transportation impact fees, secondary and cumulative impact analyses, comprehensive and regional planning, the transportation project development process, and planning implementation tools. He currently acts as the office manager for Parsons Brinckerhoff’s Harrisburg, PA office and manages the PennDOT Planning Services and Implementation and Aviation/Rail Freight open-end contracts. John Turack Penn State Extension Economic and Community Development Educator. John Turack is an Economic and Community Development Educator based in Westmoreland County with Penn State Extension He also serves as the Interim Executive Director for the Smart Growth Partnership, a partner program of Penn State Extension.
John served as a Township Supervisor in Washington Township, Westmoreland County; and as the Main Street Program Manager for the Blairsville Improvement Group in Indiana County. John’s focus as an educator now is in providing technical assistance to municipalities, community leaders, and non-profit organizations in the areas of community and citizen engagement, community visioning, and both strategic and municipal comprehensive planning.
