Summer 2009

Certification Maintenance
Quarterly Achievement Report

Each quarter, APA Interact for Certified Planners will share Institute-wide CM achievement with all AICP members to track our progress and help you benchmark your own. The first two-year CM reporting period began on January 1, 2008, although many AICP members began earning credits as early as April 14, 2007, at the National Planning Conference in Philadelphia.

As of June 2009, more than 26 percent of current AICP members in the 2008-2009 reporting period have logged 32 or more CM credits. In March 2009, 15 percent had logged 32 or more of the required credits, completing their requirements, and in December 2008, 10 percent completed the required credits.

The percentage of members who have not logged credits has decreased from 36 percent in December 2008 to 24 percent June 2009.

CM Logging for 2008-2009 chart

The above chart represents total members on the 2008-2009 reporting period = 13,715. Please note: The increase in total membership, since last reported March 2009, is due to reinstatements of AICP membership. This excludes members classified as exempt due to retired status or approval of a temporary exemption and those on the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 reporting periods.

There are currently 434 registered providers, up from 388, and 3,793 approved events, up from 2,679 events in March 2009.

We have created a web page to help AICP members find free Certification Maintenance (CM) credits that are offered through APA distance education products. Opportunities are added as they become available. We encourage members to check this link frequently for the most current information.Members and CM Events by Region chart

The above chart compares region totals for CM approved events and AICP members on the 2008-2009 reporting period = 13,715 excluding members classified as exempt due to retired status or approval of a temporary exemption and those on the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 reporting periods.

APA has launched a new self-reporting tool that enables members to record up to eight credits within each two-year reporting period for activities that meet CM criteria but are not registered by a provider. This feature may be accessed from the member CM log.

We continually monitor the availability of CM events. Distance education opportunities such as online courses, audio/web conferences, CD-ROMs, and podcasts will continue to play an important role in helping all AICP members fulfill their CM requirements.
