Certification Maintenance
Quarterly Achievement Report

Each quarter, APA Interact for Certified Planners will share Institute-wide CM achievement with all AICP members to track our progress and help you benchmark your own. The Certification Maintenance program completed its first two-year reporting period on December 31, 2009.

More than 86 percent of AICP members logged credits during the 2008-2009 reporting period, and more than 60 percent of AICP members completed their credits requirements by this date.

The percentage of members who have not logged credits decreased from 18 percent in September 2009 to approximately 13 percent in December 2009. Members are encouraged to continue attending and logging their credits through the four-month grace period, which ends April 30, 2010.

2008-2009 Reporting Period Chart

The above chart represents total members on the 2008-2009 reporting period = 13,328. This excludes members classified as exempt because of retired status or approval of a temporary exemption and those on reporting periods other than 2008-2009.

Most regions of the United States are on par with the national average of credits earned and recorded by members. We continually monitor the availability of CM events. Chances to earn credit closely match the geographic distribution of AICP members, with the exception of those located in remote areas within and outside of the U.S. Distance education opportunities, such as online courses, audio/web conferences, CD-ROMs, and podcasts, will continue to play an important role in helping all AICP members fulfill their CM requirements.

We encourage members to review APA's extensive calendar of events and check with their local chapter frequently for the most current information.

Region Totals Chart

The above chart compares region totals for CM approved events and AICP members on the 2008-2009 reporting period = 13,328. This excludes members classified as exempt because of retired status or approval of a temporary exemption and those on reporting periods other than 2008-2009.

APA has reached out to thousands of potential providers, including those referred by members and leadership. Currently, more than 500 have registered CM activities with AICP.

AICP approved more than 4,900 CM events in the quarter ending December 2009, up from 4,237 events in the quarter that ended September 30, 2009. Improvements in the APA website since the launch of the Certification Maintenance (CM) program January 1, 2008, make it easier for members to find and report CM activities and providers to register educational opportunities.
