Measuring and Benchmarking CommunitiesUT ArlingtonArlington, TX Understanding how to measure and evaluate the interplay of business competitiveness and community prosperity is an essential skill for economic developers, planners, business leaders and public officials. Location plays an ever more important part in firm strategy and performance. The right location can provide businesses with the access to key customers and clients, talent pools, R&D assets and clusters of other companies. For economic developers, understanding how to measure and market your community’s competitive assets is critical to an effective business development strategy.
This course will provide students with the framework and tools necessary to evaluate and measure locational and community assets in a shifting economic landscape. Specifically, this module will address the quantitative and qualitative metrics necessary to develop an effective benchmarking analysis, industry cluster evaluation and skill assessment. Students will conduct a hands-on assessment for a community of their choosing and formulate economic development recommendations from their analysis.
