2012 Speaker Series - Building Tools and Partnerships to Plan for the FutureAPA California Chapter, Sacramento Valley SectionSacramento, CA This session will provide an overview of current efforts being undertaken by the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research (OPR). These include the preparation of an Environmental Goals and Policy Report, development of updated General Plan Guidelines, updated CEQA guidelines, and a Climate Action Plan Technical Advisory.
The panel will provide a brief overview of each of these efforts, how OPR can help to serve in coordinating and convening local governments around these topics, and OPR’s efforts to facilitate access to data and other resources. Then, the panel will engage the audience in a dialogue to inform and improve each of these efforts.
More Instructors: Louise Bedsworth Louise Bedsworth is Senior Researcher at the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research. She was previously a Research Fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California, where she led research projects on climate adaptation, local governments and climate change, and transportation and air quality issues in California. Prior to joining PPIC, Dr. Bedsworth held positions at the Union of Concerned Scientists, Redefining Progress, and the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis. Dr. Bedsworth holds an MS in Environmental Engineering and a PhD in Energy and Resources, both from the University of California, Berkeley. Christopher Calfee Christopher Calfee is Senior Counsel at the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research. He previously served as Special Counsel to both the Office of Planning and Research and the California Natural Resources Agency, where he was the lead attorney responsible for development and adoption of amendments to the CEQA Guidelines addressing greenhouse gas emissions. In private practice, Mr. Calfee has represented both local governments and private applicants in matters involving the California Environmental Quality Act and related environmental and planning laws in association with the law firm of Remy Thomas Moose & Manley LLP, and later with Best Best & Krieger LLP.
