The American Association of State Highway Transportation Official’s (AASHTO) Guide for the Development of Bicycle Facilities serves as a key resource for planning and designing bicycle facilities in the U.S. The 2012 edition has significantly expanded the content of the guide, more than doubling in length and going from three chapters (1999 edition) to seven chapters.
This training provides a comprehensive overview of the new content of the guide. It focuses on topic areas in the guide that have been significantly expanded, including the planning chapter; characteristics of bicyclists and common trip types; and the planning and design of bike lanes, shared lanes, bicycle boulevards, off-road paths, and bike routes.
