Recapturing Forgotten Spaces

Brick Industry AssociationWashington, DC

The Brick Industry Association is pleased to present this special event for architects and urban planners. Come join us to learn how communities are using clay brick to recapture lost spaces.

Robert Brosnan, Director of Community Planning, Housing and Development for Arlington County, Virginia, will highlight Arlington's transit-oriented development and the careful attention to urban design, incorporation of complete streets, and planning for open space that has created a better place for residents and visitors.

Peter Harnick, Director, Center for City Park Excellence Trust for Public Land will present on the role of what is it that truly makes a city memorable, its parks, plazas, waterfronts, and gathering spaces. He will show how some these have been carefully planned, while others have simply emerged and evolved.

The session will be wrapped up by Stewart Schwartz, Executive Director, Coalition for Smarter Growth focusing on how the greatest potential for suburban reinvention can be found in the underutilized commercial strip corridors with acres of parking lots.
