More Instructors: Richard DeJana RICHARD DEJANA is a member manager of the law firm of Richard DeJana and Associates PLLC, where his areas of practice include insurance defense, zoning, planning and land use, business law and fair debt collection. Mr. DeJana has frequently lectured on topics such as land use, zoning and boundary law matters. He earned his A.B. degree from Rockhurst College and his J.D. degree from the University of Montana. Mr. DeJana is a member of the Northwest Montana and American bar associations. James Madden JAMES M. MADDEN recently retired as a special assistant attorney general with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) in Helena. His decades of experience have focused in environmental and natural resources law, and his particular areas of expertise include state and federal Superfund; air and water quality; hazardous waste; state and federal water rights; subdivision review; and administrative law. Mr. Madden has spoken to numerous professional groups about various aspects of environmental law and is a frequent lecturer for National Business Institute. He is a member of the State Bar of Montana. Mr. Madden earned his B.A. degree from the University of Montana and his J.D. degree from the University of Washington School of Law. Kristin Omvig KRISTIN L. OMVIG is an attorney in the law firm of Hammer, Hewitt, Jacobs & Quinn, PLLC. Ms. Omvig is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts in Montana, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Her practice concentrates primarily in the areas of commercial litigation, real estate litigation, subdivision, zoning litigation and general land use matters and litigation. Ms. Omvig earned her B.S. degree, with high honors, from the University of Montana, and her J.D. degree from the University of Montana School of Law. Erica Wirtala AICP ERICA WIRTALA is the government affairs director at the Northwest Montana Association of Realtors (NMAR) in Kalispell, Montana. Ms. Wirtala has more than 18 years of experience as a private land use planning consultant and holds an American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification. She is involved in teaching the continuing education class for realtors on zoning. Ms. Wirtala earned her B.S. degree in natural resources from the University of Michigan and her M.S. degree in rural, regional and town planning from the University of Montana.
