Movies and Minors and Beers - Oh My!Planning Director's Association of Orange CountyRancho Santa Margarita, CA The trend is shifting in movie theater operations in order to stay competitive in the today's entertainment industry, and there is growing interest in expanding the concession menu of soft drinks, popcorn, and candy to include alcoholic beverages and more refined entree options.
Only four of 34 Orange County cities have movie theaters that serve alcoholic beverages. Two city officials will share their experience with the zoning code challenges in allowing movie theaters to serve beer, wine, and other mixed drinks, and to offer an expanded food menu. On-site security, presence of minors, responsible alcoholic beverage service, and other key issues to ensure neighborhood compatibility are to be discussed. Unique conditions of approval will also be shared.
