This 2-day training course will focus on federal requirements to address environmental justice within transportation projects and plans. A high level of community engagement is important, along with demographic research and assessment of potential impacts. The training will cover this entire process, including: • overview of common terms and basic methodologies • review of regulations, recent changes, and case law relevant to environmental justice • datasets and approaches to identify minority / low-income populations and language/accessibility issues • methods to assess impacts and identify mitigation needs • team case study exercises with specific roles by experience level and group presentations

While the topic is geared particularly for planners involved with EJ on transportation projects and environmental impact assessment, the approaches can help county/municipal and consulting staff improve their understanding of how to identify and engage underserved populations within their planning processes.

The format is designed to be modern, upbeat, interactive, and practical. Take-away materials will include copies of the training materials and a flashdrive of current policy and procedures divided by USDOT agency. Discounts are available, as described at http://facebook.com/AdrianCollaborative
