An Introduction to Land Use LawRocky Mountain Land Use Institute-University of Denver Sturm College of LawDenver, CO An Introduction to Land Use Law will cover the basics of land use law, including where to find the laws, the history and role of land use planning, and an overview of the basic legal tools and limitations that govern the regulation of land use. This workshop is designed for young professionals or those seeking to gain basic knowledge of land use law and planning.

Professor Carol Brown teaches and writes in the areas of property, land use planning, real estate transactions, and housing law. She is the author or co-author of six books on these subjects, including Thomson West’s Cases and Materials on American Property Law, as well as a number of law review articles and book chapters. A leader in her field, Professor Brown is a frequent presenter at symposiums and conferences. Professor Brown was the 2011-12 chair of the Association of American Law Schools Section on Real Estate Transactions, and has also served as chair of the AALS Section on Property Law, among other leadership positions on AALS committees. Prior to joining the Richmond Law faculty in 2012, Professor Brown was a tenured professor at University of North Carolina School of Law.

He is the author of over 30 articles and books, including a current land use law casebook and, with Professor John Davidson, a two-volume treatise on federal environmental law. Professor Delogu has been a consultant to the National Water Commission and the Association for the Study of Peak Oil, a member of Maine’s Board of Environmental Protection, a Portland city councilor, and is presently a member of the City of Portland Planning Board.

Daniel R. Mandelker, FAICP, is the Stamper Professor of Law at Washington University in St. Louis, where he teaches land use law and state and local government law. In 2007 he received the Daniel J. Curtin Lifetime Achievement Award from the Section of State and Local Government of the American Bar Association. He is the author of several books, treatises and articles, including Planning and Control of Land Development Designing Planned Communities and Free Speech Law for On Premise Signs. Professor Mandelker was the principal consultant for the American Planning Association’s Smart Growth project. He has served on the Board of Directors of the American Planning Association and their Amicus Curiae Committee.

A former president of the American Planning Association, Meck has 41 years of experience as a planner, municipal administrator, researcher, and planning faculty member. His long-term goal is to master funk drumming.

He is also a former editor of the Journal of Affordable Housing and Community Development Law and the co-author of casebooks in housing law, land use regulation, property law, and state and local government law, as well as more than 30 articles.
