A Public Market for Madison: A Progress Report

APA Wisconsin ChapterMadison, WI

Free event

From my position as Vice-Chair of the City of Madison’s Local Food Committee and informed by previous work in co-founding and serving as secretary/treasurer of Madison’s Westside Community Market, I will outline the history of recent attempts to plan an indoor, year-round Public Market and report on the progress of the most recent effort. Key factors such as location, vendor mix, location, facilities needed, location, food sourcing and availability, location, economic feasibility and location will be discussed.

AICP members need up-to-date training in marketplaces and food systems planning. The field is growing and changing rapidly. Markets have become a more common, and more controversial, sight in many U.S. cities. This lecture apprises planners of recent planning practice concerning the public market planned for Madison Wi.
