Philadelphia Hosts 2007 Gathering of Planners
Philadelphia, the fifth-largest U.S. city and birthplace of the nation, hosted the American Planning Association's 2007 National Planning Conference, April 14-18, 2007. More than 6,000 planners, students, and citizens enjoyed 200-plus conference sessions, mobile workshops, training seminars, and networking opportunities in a city more than 300 years old.

This day-long, collaborative planning workshop on Saturday helped residents address growing development pressures in the Sharswood community, one mile from the Center City area of Philadelphia. Although largely blighted and economically depressed, Sharswood possesses hundreds of vacant properties that when combined with its locational advantages and community activism present favorable redevelopment opportunities. Conference Sessions Conference goers chose from about 235 sessions that offered case studies of the best planning from around the U.S.
National Planning Conference PowerPoints As a service to 2007 National Planning Conference attendees and speakers, APA is posting hundreds of PowerPoint presentations used in conference sessions. Many attendees requested the presentations, and we are happy to provide them. Only PowerPoint presentations that were preloaded in the Speaker Preview Room are included on this site. Further, several presentations were simply too large to post. Access is limited to conference registrants. You may view the presentations by clicking the link below and logging in to the APA website. However, you must contact the creators of the PowerPoints for permission to use any part of these presentations, including any photos and images.
Mobile Workshops More than 80 mobile workshops gave conference goers a first-hand view of the initiatives of local planners. They traveled by bus, bicycle, train, and on foot all across the region.
The 2007 National Awards for Planning honor planning landmarks and pioneers, journalists, students, citizens, and professionals who have achieved excellence and helped to improve communities' quality of life.
The APA Pavilion minitheater, Live From APA, featured a continuous lineup of brief, interactive presentations on topics that range from AICP exam preparation to Zoning Practice. AICP and division leaders, publication editors and contributors, hurricane relief volunteers, APA staff, and others informed and engaged conference-goers throughout this lively, four-day series.
