APA New Directors Institute Scholarship

Deadline extended: March 16, 2012

The Program

The downturn in the economy is confronting many of our members with difficult decisions — either to invest in professional development or to commit those funds for other needs. The APA City Planning and Management Division wants to provide help for those contemplating attending the New Directors Institute in Los Angeles this spring but are faced with difficult financial hurdles.

The Division has created scholarships for the New Directors Institute: $1,200 has been set aside to provide $300 scholarships for up to four APA members desiring to attend the New Directors Institute in 2012. If you are looking to improve your managerial skills as a director and are unemployed, or if your household income has dropped more than 25 percent, then this program is designed for you.

Eligibility

You must be an APA member registered for the New Directors Institute at the National Planning Conference in Los Angeles 2012. Preference will be given to new directors and members of the City Planning and Management Division.

How to Apply

No request for proof of financial hardship will be required. This program will be run on the honor system. The Division wants to offer as much support as possible in these unprecedented times. APA members who desire financial assistance can apply for the scholarship to use toward the Institute fees. A simple e-mail stating you want assistance, with proof of APA membership and/or conference payment(s), may be e-mailed to joseph.horwedel@sanjoseca.gov. Those who have questions may call 408-506-6724.
