ENRE Student Fellowship Program

The American Planning Association's Environment, Natural Resources and Energy Division announces its Student Fellowship Program for second-year planning graduate students. The Fellowship's purpose is to provide $2,500 financial support for students excelling in graduate level studies in planning related to natural resources, energy or the environment.

About the Award

$2,500 for the 2012-13 School Calendar Year (two awards of $1,250 at end of each semester)

Eligibility

• Second year graduate student (during the 2012-13 academic year) enrolled in a PAB-accredited graduate school planning program
• GPA: B or above (3.0 on a 4.0 scale)
• Studies focused on issues related to the environment, natural resources or energy, and pursuing a program or course of study consistent with ENRE's mission to promote sound environmental, natural resources and energy planning and sound resource use policies among individual members of APA and the general public, and within the planning profession and communities of all scales.
• Preference will be given to students with APA and ENRE Division memberships. Learn more about joining the division.

Selection

Awards will be based on:

1. Meeting the eligibility criteria
2. Quality of the application materials
3. Connection of the student's course of study to Division's mission

Submission Requirements

1. Application form
2. Recommendation letter from thesis/project faculty advisor
3. Description of masters' thesis or project, including how it relates to the Division's mission (800-word maximum)
4. Essay describing interest in environmental planning, experience (extra-curricular activities may be included), and future career goals (600-word maximum)
5. CV or resume

Responsibility of the Student Fellow

1. Maintain the course of study identified in the application and GPA of B or greater
2. Submit a paper by August 31, 2012, for consideration for publication in the Division's newsletter. Student is also encouraged to submit a conference session or poster presentation proposal to present at the 2013 APA National Planning Conference in Chicago.
