For Treasurer

Alice Walkup

Position Statement

Alice WalkupMy goals as Treasurer would be to ensure responsible budgeting of funds to achieve Division objectives and work cooperatively with my fellow officers. In this position, I would also provide prompt reimbursement for expenses, accurate accounting, and clear reporting to both the Division and APA.

I commit to putting into action many of the ideas that were shared at the 2012 Business Meeting in Los Angeles and emerged as priorities from the 2009 Membership Survey. Some of these activities below would raise the profile of the Division at little to no cost:

  • Enhancing the Division's public face by scaling up its presence on the APA website, LinkedIn, and other social media;
  • Recognizing both a professional and student planner with awards;  and
  • Instituting a mentoring program for planners at the beginning of their careers to promote the professional development of members.

Summary of Background and Qualifications

As Community Development Senior Planner in Newton, Massachusetts, I provide annual reports on the City's Community Development Block Grant program activities and use of funds. In addition, I serve as project manager for the City's architectural access work, and track the budgets for fifteen projects to confirm the best use of each dollar. I previously worked as a transportation planner for Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates, where I also monitored budgets and completed required reporting for a variety of clients.

I joined APA in 2007, when I began my Master's Degree in Urban Planning at NYU Wagner. There, I served in several leadership roles, including as co-chair of both the Wagner Environmental Policy and Action student group and the Campus Planning Group of the NYU Sustainability Task Force, before I graduated in 2009. Currently, I am on the Reunion Committee for my undergraduate alma mater, the College of William and Mary.
