Transportation PlanningThe Transportation Planning Division (TPD) supports transportation planners and provides critical transportation and infrastructure policy research and background information for local, regional, state, and national legislative/policy decisions, and advocating for their adoption. This work includes all forms of people and goods movement including bicycle and pedestrian, transit and roadways, highways and waterways, and shipping by rail, water, or road. Our members represent local, regional, state, and federal transportation planners, and include vital private practice planners and members of the academic community who provide needed support and education to the public sector.
The TPD advocates for comprehensive, sustainable transportation planning. It offers the expertise of its members to APA in developing policy documents related to transportation and infrastructure and provides opportunities for continuing professional development and research through various committees. The Division also reaches out to other national (and international) organizations with similar interests to pursue common goals. Finally, it is a great networking resource. From our business meeting and social at the Annual APA National Conference to its website, blog, Facebook, Ning, and LinkedIn online resources, there is a plethora of ways for TPD members to connect and learn from others' experience."
