Divisions and AICP's Certification Maintenance (CM) Program
Things to keep in mind if your division programs (sessions, training workshops, or mobile workshops) are to be approved for CM credit:
1. Content must be advanced level discussions and focused on planning content.
2. Avoid the following:
- "An Introduction to…") programs. CM programs cannot be introductory
- Programs that showcase the work of a firm or agency with limited discussion of the planning process, the outcomes, or what worked and what didn't.
- Programs aimed at students or those new to planning
- Programs geared to the general public
3. Work with your presenters to pitch the level of your program to AICP members (if that is your audience) with three or more years of experience.
4. Select topics that have matured. Or, if they are new, explain well the connection to planning and why planning should consider a new direction.
5. Use experienced speakers with substantive knowledge.
6. AICP members will be looking to divisions to provide up-to-date, in-depth presentations on important topics. Keep your programs fresh and growing.
7. Focus your sessions on the goals and rationale of the division. For example, the Transportation Division should be offering solid sessions on current trends, issues, best case practice, and policies of transportation planning.
