Education Summit II Friday, April 23, 2004 Washington, D.C.Planners assembled for the second part of the Planning Education Summit at the APA conference leadership meetings. This second in a series of three summits originated with the initial summit on September 11, 2003. The purpose is to explore the direction of planning education over the next five years. A third, concluding summit will take place in Portland, Oregon, at the fall APA leadership and ACSP conference. Materials for Education Summit II
An unprecedented daylong Education Summit of planning leaders was held September 11, 2003, in Chicago. The meeting brought together representatives of the American Planning Association, the Planning Accreditation Board (PAB), and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP). The summit was convened prior to the APA Fall Leadership Conference to explore the direction of planning education over the next five years. A white paper on the outcomes is planned. Planning Accreditation Board Chair Frederick Steiner (pictured at left), dean of the School of Architecture and Planning, University of Texas at Austin, was the summit keynote speaker. APA was represented by members of the APA Board of Directors and AICP Commission, Divisions Council, Chapter Presidents Council, Professional Development Officers, and members of the APA Student Representatives Council executive committee.
