
APA Fall Leadership Meeting In September 2005, the elected leaders of APA and AICP held their Fall Leadership Meetings in Buffalo, New York. APA's Board of Directors adopted the 2006-2007 biennial budget, and adopted a statement on APA's response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. President Dave Siegel, AICP, announced the appointment of a new Katrina Task Force to coordinate the response by APA's component groups, chaired by APA Immediate Past President Mary Kay Peck, AICP. The AICP Commission conducted its business meeting as well as a strategic work session in which the members of the commission worked to focus the mission of the institute. The AICP Commission also pledged assistance to Katrina relief efforts. The Chapter Presidents Council, composed of the elected leaders from all of APA's 46 chapters nationwide, conducted its business meeting and forwarded advisory recommendations to the APA Board of Directors on issues relating to chapters and chapter activities within APA. Members of the CPC were central to drafting the statement of APA's response to the disaster in the Gulf. The Divisions Council participated in leadership development training. The council also announced possible development of interest in new divisions. Ideas for new divisions included Zoning and Development Review Officials Division, County Planners Division, and Latino or Hispanic Planners Division. The Divisions Council also pledged assistance to Katrina relief efforts. The APA Student Representatives Council Executive Committee met for a business meeting and to plan student activities and sessions at the National Planning Conference. For the San Antonio conference in 2006, the students will revive the popular t-shirt design competition and sale, with the proceeds benefiting Katrina victims. All attendees also participated in media training session as part of the rollout of the communications toolkit, part of APA's larger strategy of communications and public information. APA Development Plan APA's 2006-2007 Development Plan was adopted by the APA Board of Directors at the 2005 National Planning Conference in San Francisco. The purpose of this biennial Development Plan (formerly known as the Organizational Development Plan or ODP) is to outline the new initiatives and leading priorities for the organization. |
