Starting Salary: $21.48–$23.51 (depending on experience)

About this Position
The Associate Planner—Long Range assists in neighborhood, mobility, and special area planning processes as well as the compilation of the City's demographic data. This Planner I position has an active role in maintaining and implementing the comprehensive plan. Associate Planner jobs may include (but are not limited to) creating and revising complex mapping projects; assisting in the preparation of staff reports; and reviewing development applications for compliance, similar to an Assistant Planner.
Responsibilities
- Perform professional work related to a variety of planning assignments
- Assist in the development of land use, housing, neighborhood, and mobility plans and studies
- Conduct research and prepare statistical reports on land use, physical, social & economic issues
- Assist in performing planning studies and mapping/database projects
- Assist in plan maintenance by updating planning documents
- Assist in the reviews and processes of comprehensive plan amendments and updates
- Provide professional planning assistance on varied land use projects
- Research and provide information related to department functions and work
- Participate in the review of development applications
Qualifications
- Knowledge of advanced fields, equivalent to a four-year college degree
- College degree in relevant field is preferred
- 12-18 months of related experience and/or training
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 12-18 months of management experience
- People and/or project management
- Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
Necessary Skills
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Advanced knowledge of ArcGIS
- Basic knowledge of Adobe products: Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
- Knowledge of the following:
- Philosophies, principles, practices, and techniques of planning
- One or more planning disciplines (urban design, economic development, land use, etc.)
- Principles, methodology, and practices of research and data collection
- Effective writing techniques
- Ability to work on several projects simultaneously
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment as needed
- Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
- Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug and audio screenings
