PURPOSE: Under the Department of Planning, Operations, and Construction (POC), manages University-wide access control to ensure the safety and security of the University community.
DUTIES: Oversee the planning, management, and coordination of access control related operations; hold responsibility for access card and key security, inventory control, database management, electronic products system management, supervision, vendor/contractor management, and the overall management of the University access and key control program; provide consultation, recommendations, and technical expertise and support; advise department leaders and University administration on access control matters and serve as a resource to all of POC; formulate and oversee new installations and service contracts; research and evaluate emerging access control technology such as new hardware, software, and management tools relating to access control, facilities, access card and key control, security, and campus one-card programs; oversee day to day management of existing installations; manage provision, distribution, and tracking of access cards and keys; develop and maintain an inventory control database for access cards and key blanks that are issued and purchased; receive and complete access card and key requests; collaborate, develop, and support departmental initiatives, policy proposals, and strategic plans; define, develop, and direct the scope, operational priorities, standards, policies, and implementation plans including milestone and performance metrics for access control projects; oversee the management of materials, parts, equipment, and expenses including inventory tracking, record keeping, product research, and supply procurement; manage vendors and contractors as required; ensure technology based systems are maintained with current software and firmware revisions, are routinely backed-up for data retrieval, and are routinely tested (by others) for emergency power transfer and continuing operations during power failure; monitor wireless systems battery replacement and manage the uninterrupted operational fitness of these systems; research, prepare, manage, and present information including programs, estimates, budgets, schedules, warranty, maintenance, repair, and status reports; effectively communicate and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all parties are well-informed and proper review and approval is received; coordinate with the Department of Public Safety for daily monitoring and response to access control and proprietary alarm systems; assist staff and improve the knowledge and skills of others, including identifying areas for enhancement, developing training programs, and instructing personnel on access control related topics; work in collaboration with Insurance and Risk Management and Public Safety to define, recommend, and implement access control and security policies and standards; perform all work in compliance with plans, specifications, industry standards, best practices, and Pepperdine standards; perform regular administrative tasks such as maintaining files, processing paperwork, entering data, and monitoring systems; maintain tools, equipment, and a clean work area; uphold University mission through work performed; perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Project Management of Security, Technology Based Systems, or related field; five (5) years of progressively responsible experience providing security, access control support, and/or strategic planning required; knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of security and access control required; knowledge of current security, access control hardware, software, and emerging technologies required; skill in analyzing and improving operational effectiveness as well as defining program objectives and establishing access control standards, policies, and budgets required; proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat required; strong English written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills required; ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently and as part of a team, and meet deadlines required; professional demeanor and positive attitude required; strong customer service skills required; Master's degree preferred.
Normal mobility and ability to periodically lift and carry boxes weighing as much as 30 pounds, including up and down stairs required.
Must drive personal vehicle for University business (mileage reimbursed), hold valid driver's license, have current automobile insurance, and be insurable under University's standard auto insurance requirements.
