The City of Manassas, Community Development Department is seeking an individual to perform complex professional and difficult technical and administrative work in the areas of current planning, comprehensive planning, demographics and serves as City Zoning Administrator. Manages, supervises and directs all activities of the Planning and Zoning Services Division. Supervises major planning and zoning studies, including working closely with the director on the basic conceptualization of studies through their final presentation. Oversees amendments to various codes and polices including the Zoning Ordinance, the Comprehensive Plan, small area plans and strategic plans. Prepares detailed and complex reports and studies, including legislative proposals. Oversees staff support for the Planning Commission and land use matters before the City Council and related committees; provides direct staff support to the Board of Zoning Appeals.
A master’s degree in City or Regional Planning or related field is required; supplemented by five (5) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in comprehensive urban planning, zoning administration; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. The preferred candidate will have excellent writing and public speaking skills, and possess (or have the ability to obtain within 18 months) the following certifications: American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and CZA (Certified Zoning Administrator). Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license.
