The Planner II will perform complex professional level work in the field of long-range planning. This position will be responsible for providing information and assistance to other city departments; the governing bodies; city/county planning commission; developers; the business community, neighborhood representatives and the general public on land use & growth related issues, new and redevelopment projects and other development related matters. Other key job duties include providing support to implement the commercial design standards, advance policies and goals related to the SmartGrowth principles being pursued by the City and Planning Commissions.
Requires a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in planning, urban design, landscape architecture, architecture, or a closely related field. Must have a minimum of two years increasingly responsible professional planning experience in urban planning. Three to five years of a variety of planning experience including design guidelines development or review, plans review, research and small area planning experience is desirable. Planning experience with an emphasis in urban design, design guidelines administration, or SmartGrowth codes will advance you in the selection process.
This position requires a comprehensive understanding of what constitutes good planning theory and design, and the abilities to apply this understanding to both current and long-range goals of the community. The successful applicant will have demonstrated the ability to translate new urbanism and SmartGrowth planning principles into long-range planning goals that can be implemented through development and adoption of codes and policies by the governing bodies. The successful applicant will pass the post-offer City physical and drug screen.
