The City of Worcester’s Division of Planning & Regulatory Services is seeking qualified, highly motivated applicants for the position of Chief Planner. This position provides an exciting opportunity for a professional planner to work in a dynamic city. Duties include: advanced planning services and support for five regulatory boards, supervision of staff in the provision of customer service, processing and reviewing land use and regulatory applications, and participation in the development of technical studies and policy recommendations related to community and economic development planning and land use.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, and have strong organizational, interpersonal, written, oral communication, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. Flexibility with regard to work assignments and work hours is essential. Bachelor’s degree in city or regional planning, geography, public administration, architecture, environmental studies, civil engineering, or any other discipline applicable to land use planning, and 7 years of professional experience in related field; or a Master’s degree in city or regional planning or related field and 5 years experience; strong computer skills and knowledge of standard productivity and database software (MS Office Suite); experience with Geographic Information Systems desirable; AICP, bilingual a plus.
