The Central Arizona Governments (CAG) is seeking a GIS Planning Manager to provide professional GIS planning services to our region. With our central office located in the City of Apache Junction, CAG is a regional governmental planning agency serving 17 communities, two counties, three Native American tribes, and a total population of 430,000 throughout Pinal and Gila counties.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing all of the agency’s GIS activities and administering systems analysis, computer programming, software and hardware administration and support, data analysis, system administration, cartographical design and the management of assigned GIS personnel. Duties will include the development and implementation of CAG’s GIS technology for our member governments; the development and maintenance of all GIS map files; the development of mapping standards and procedures; administering database updates, design, maintenance and documentation; providing technical assistance in database planning, and in creating and improving digital GIS data, drawings and graphic illustrations; working with land use planning, mapping, PC tablets, Global Positioning Systems and aerial imagery; assisting the agency in maintaining and updating demographic and socioeconomic databases and transportation data; assisting with information services activities for CAG; and overseeing all stages of project development and contractual obligations of the department.
Other functions of the position will include:
• The use of ESRI software to prepare map-based information; create, edit, and maintain geo databases and shape files; and coordinate with other departments to collect, maintain, analyze and present GIS data for a variety of project needs and studies. Collects, prepares and analyzes geospatial data.
• Work directly with regional members and CAG departments to develop project objectives, develop contracts, and to develop comprehensive scopes of work for individual projects.
• Responsible for maintaining and establishing mapping procedures and standards.
• Work closely to coordinate ArcGIS applications on Tablet PC devices for the purposes of conducting field surveys.
This position will require demonstrated knowledge and experience in GIS and ArcView software. The position requires a Master’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Cartography, Information Services, Computer Programming or a related field and four years of experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree in such related fields and eight years of experience. A GIS Professional (GISP) certification is a plus, but not required. Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, analytical, and communication skills will be considered. CAG provides a small office working environment and conducts business on a four day (10 hours per day) work week, Monday through Thursday.
Salary range is $52,000 to $60,000 DOQ with a competitive benefit package provided.
