The purpose of this classification is to manage operations and activities of the Planning Division, to include overseeing the review of zoning and ordinance modification requests, site plans and land development applications for compliance with county codes and ordinances.
Directs and manages the work of the division, including establishing priorities, setting quality standards, and ensuring established deadlines are met.
Directs the administration and operation of the county’s development review and zoning evaluation program. Manages the division responsible for processing rezoning, special exception/special permit and variance applications.
Negotiates all aspects of zoning requests to include coordinating with other departments and agencies on issue identification and resolution.
Interprets and applies applicable state, county, and local codes, ordinances, regulations, standards, specifications, policies and procedures pertaining to planning, zoning, land development, and land use.
Presents applications to the Planning Commissions, Board of Commissioners, Board of Zoning and Appeals, and citizen groups.
Ensures accurate and consistent application of policies and regulations.
Strives for continuous improvements and efficiencies in the organization.
Responsible for issuing written determinations of previously approved zonings.
Represents the department on various teams and special projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsible for personnel management/performance in division.
May represent the department director at meetings or on projects.
