Comprehensive Planning Manager

We are seeking a seasoned and polished individual to perform professional planning duties related to administering and updating the general plan (Regional Land Use and Transportation Plan) including annual reports and the analysis, report preparation and public presentation of changes associated with development projects and changes to upgrade the plan to meet community expectations. May be assigned full responsibility for particular projects or phases of planning work and perform functions at all levels of the planning process. Projects may include the coordination of community character studies for specific areas of the community, leadership in the coordination of the GIS database and participation in the development of policies, guidelines and ordinances to implement various planning efforts of the Planning and Development Services Division, including Form Based Codes.
We will rely on you to exercise considerable independence, initiative and professional expertise, particularly in planning analysis and the formulation and implementation of regional and community planning, including municipal and private planning level economics and working with appropriate Commissions and Committees. This position requires a high degree of collaboration and leadership with persons, entities and agencies at all levels in the private and public sectors, notably relative to regional planning and general plan matters. You will serve both as a catalyst and as a leader in identifying community and regional planning needs, and in developing, implementing, and maintaining broad strategies and programs to meet those needs. Additionally, you will coordinate long-range planning programs, policies and documents with most departments within the City and within the Community Development Department.
This position is FLSA exempt.
• Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Urban Planning, Urban Design or other related field that provides appropriate planning background; Master’s degree in planning, regional planning or urban planning highly desirable
• 5 years experience in long-range, community, neighborhood or current planning including project design work
• Current American Institute of Certified Planners certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months
• 2 years of recent full-time professional planning experience in advanced, long-range planning or equivalent experience
• Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona driver’s license
• Ability to attend meetings in the evenings as necessitated by the job
