Priorities and Strategies

Latinos and Planning priorities and strategies are guided by our "Latinos and Planning National Agenda." The agenda integrates the results from all the dialogos held around the United States. The current National Agenda is based on dialogos held between October 2005 and October 2006. We will update the Agenda periodically as more dialogos are held.

As of November 2006, the most critical challenges we've identified are:

  • Lack of participation in planning by Latinos
  • The relationship of planners and planning profession to Latino communities
  • Urban design as it relates to Latino communities
  • The capacity of Latino communities and organizations that serve them to engage in planning efforts
  • Planning methods as they relate to Latino communities
  • The impact of redevelopment and gentrification on Latino communities

In early 2007, the membership of Latinos and Planning will identify the primary strategies of the new division.
