Responsibilities
- Attend all SRC-related meetings and events **
This is how you keep in touch with APA national and its activities and programs directed to students. There are two meetings each year – one during the APA National Planning Conference, the other at the Fall Leadership Meetings. Airfare and some lodging expenses are reimbursable.
- Contribute to development of student events and sessions
The SRC Executive Committee plans student-focused events and sessions for each National Planning Conference.
- Use the APA website and read APA's Interact
Keep up-to-date on student related activities by visiting the APA site frequently. Look for “Students” under “About APA” on our website. Interact is APA's e-newsletter – special student issues come out 2-3 times a year.
- Participate in your state APA Chapter
The energy and enthusiasm that students can bring to an organization is invaluable. The Chapter probably could use your help, and some chapters even have Student officers. Get involved in any way you can. Network with professional planners and get the satisfaction of contributing to the planning movement.
Contact the Student Reps in your region regularly (monthly). Share any APA news – scholarships, mentoring programs, conference-related volunteer opportunities, and discounts on JAPA, conferences, membership, and a reduced dues category for graduating APA Student Members. There's a lot to talk about! Do they have any questions, concerns, problems? Do they need help recruiting or additional membership materials? Just keep in touch.
You represent APA every time you attend a meeting or planning event. Be prepared to answer questions about APA. (Visit the website regularly and read Interact, APA's monthly online newsletter.)
What's happening with you? Let your SRC Chair know what you're hearing in your region – about APA, planning, jobs, whatever. Contact staff with any questions about APA that you cannot answer.
The SRC Executive Committee works as a team throughout the year to plan and support student activities. APA staff is available to answer questions, provide direction, and help you locate resources.
