Lynn M. Ross, AICP
Lynn M. Ross, AICPis a recipient of the 2009 Design Achievement Award presented by the Iowa State University College of Design. The award recognizes outstanding mid-career creative and professional achievements of alumni in architecture, art and design, community and regional planning, and landscape architecture. Ross is director of state and local initiatives for the National Housing Conference and Center for Housing Policy in Washington, D.C.

Ruth Eckdish Knack, AICP
Ruth Knack, AICPhas been appointed to the Illinois Historic Sites Advisory Council. The council, which is part of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, considers properties nominated for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Knack is the executive editor of Planning magazine.

Amanda M. Burden, FAICP
Amanda M. Burden, FAICPchair of the New York City Planning Commission and director of the New York Department of Planning, will receive the 2009 Urban Land Institute (ULI) J.C. Nichols Prize for Visionaries in Urban Development. The $100,000 prize is named for developer and founding ULI member J.C. Nichols, and recognizes a person whose career demonstrates a commitment to the highest standards of responsible development.

Michael T. Trio, AICP
Michael T. Trio, AICPhas joined the West Chester, Pennsylvania, office of the consulting engineering firm Pennoni Associates. He will serve as a senior planner in the firm's Civil/Site/LA Technology. Prior to joining Pennoni, Trio served as principal of T3 Advisors, Planners and Development Consultants. He serves as vice chairman of the Newtown Township Planning Commission in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

Thomas A. Perrigo, AICP
Thomas A. Perrigo, AICPCity of Las Vegas Deputy Director of Planning and Development, was chosen as the 2009 Planner of the Year by the 14-state Western Planner Association. Perrigo was selected for his many contributions to the city's sustainability initiative networking with both public and private partnerships to promote and perpetuate sustainability objectives, policies and projects in Southern Nevada.

Michael English, AICP
Michael English, AICPhas been appointed to the board of trustees of Coastal and Marine Laboratory at Florida State University. The laboratory's mission is to conduct innovative, interdisciplinary research focused on the coastal and marine ecosystems of the northeastern Gulf of Mexico. English is vice president for community and regional planning at WilsonMiller, a Florida-based consulting firm.

Anita Yap, AICP
Anita Yap, AICPhas co-authored two articles on new city planning and ecosystem services. "The Damascus Story" appeared in the Oregon Planners Journal and "Ecosystem Services and City Planning" was published in the Oregon Insider. In addition, her work on urban agriculture and urban/rural issues was featured in the Oregonian. Yap is community development director for the City of Damascus, Oregon.

Richard Carson
Richard Carsonhas published "Sustainability — The Great Divide," on ArchNewsNow. This essay explores the philosophical opposites of the sustainability movement. More people are opting to live "off the grid" in America, yet the government is choosing a path of national sustainability through government programs and subsidies. Carson was also recently featured on the PBS documentary called "Making Sense of Place."

Debra March
Debra Marcha director-at-large on APA's Board of Directors, has been appointed to the Henderson, Nevada, City Council. March is the executive director of the Lied Institute for Real Estate Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She was one of 16 candidates that applied for the vacant city council seat.

Jill Cohen, AICP
Jill Cohen, AICPhas been appointed vice chair of the Broward branch of the U.S. Green Building Council. Cohen, a senior planner and landscape architect at Miller Legg, has been an active member of the South Florida Chapter of the council. Recently she spearheaded Broward 2030, a committee created to develop ways to support municipalities in their sustainability efforts.

Carol Conner, AICP
Carol Conner,  AICP current executive vice president and corporate director of MSCW, Inc., will transition from that firm to become a middle school teacher with the goal of helping to improve math and science achievement. Conner recently began to work on a Master of Arts in a University of Central Florida program focused on creating educational reform in Central Florida's math and science departments. She hopes to become a full-time teacher while pursuing her master's degree.

Michael A. Morgan
Michael A. Morganwas recently named a vice president of Gannett Fleming, an international planning, design, and construction management firm. Based in the firm's South Plainfield, New Jersey, office, Morgan serves as transportation engineering and planning department manager for the New Jersey and metropolitan New York region. He is a registered professional engineer in New Jersey and a registered New Jersey professional planner.

Grieg Asher, AICP, has been named senior planner for the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), in Los Angeles. He will be the greenhouse gas project manager and will help implement S.B. 375 through the development of sustainable communities. Asher formerly worked for the City of Los Angeles, where he led several initiatives focused on developing a place-centered approach to planning and economic development.

Daniel G. Chatman will join the faculty in the Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley in fall 2009. Chatman is currently an assistant professor at Rutgers University and research director of the Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center. He will teach an undergraduate course in transportation planning and graduate courses in transportation and land use planning and methods.

Jennifer Wolch is the new William W. Wurster Chair in City and Regional Planning and Dean of the College of Environmental Design at the University of California, Berkeley, beginning in fall 2009. She is currently professor of geography and urban planning, and director of the Center for Sustainable Cities at the University of Southern California. Her research focuses on metropolitan sprawl, physical activity and urban design, urban parks, environmental justice, and the carbon "hoofprint" of cities.

Ralph Willmer, AICP, has been named an associate by Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. (VHB), a transportation, land development, and environmental services firm. Willmer is a senior planner and project manager in the Watertown, Massachusetts, office and has worked for the firm for four years. He specializes in zoning, open space, natural resources, housing, permitting, and land use planning, working primarily for cities and towns throughout the northeast.

Thomas W. Bartnik, AICP
Thomas W. Bartnik,  AICPhas been named the Community Design Center of Pittsburgh's first director of design and planning. Bartnik will be responsible for the organization's partnerships with for-profit, nonprofit, and public entities, and expanding the CDCP's technical assistance consulting services. He provided urban planning and project management services in the private sector for more than 20 years, most recently at the Pittsburgh office of Perkins Eastman.

Christine W. Apicella, AICP
Christine W. Apicella, AICPhas joined Massachusetts engineering and planning firm of McMahon Associates as a senior project planner in the transportation planning department. Apicella specializes in developing strategic transportation and community development plans; transportation demand management; and building public/private partnerships.

Raymond W. Greer, AICP was elected to the Florida Redevelopment Association's (FRA) board of directors representing the West Florida region. Greer is a regional manager for community and regional planning at WilsonMiller. FRA promotes the economic, cultural, and environmental benefits of urban redevelopment projects and provides its members with resources to assist in revitalization efforts.

Molly MacQueen has been promoted to vice president and national manager of environmental planning services in STV's Transportation and Infrastructure Division. MacQueen has been with STV since 2000. She will continue to serve as the project manager for the New York City Department of City Planning's Lower Concourse Rezoning environmental impact statement and the upcoming Webster and Third Avenue rezoning.

Roy Takemoto
Roy Takemoto has joined PBR HAWAII as managing director of its Hilo, Hawaii, office. Takemoto's planning experience includes working as project manager on the construction of the Four Seasons Wailea hotel and owning a private planning practice. He gave up his practice to serve as the Hilo mayor's deputy planning director and executive assistant.

Nando Micale, AICP
Nando Micale, AICP has been elevated to the American Institute of Architects prestigious College of Fellows. Nando, a WRT Planning and Urban Design principal, is teaching at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Design, working on a sustainable urban design plan outside of Minneapolis, and collaborating on a master plan for the Wabash River in Indiana.

Brock LaForty, AICP, has been named an associate with STV/Ralph Whitehead Associates. LaForty is transportation planning group leader in the Charlotte, North Carolina, office of the firm, which is a 150-person planning, engineering, and construction management group.

Nicole Storey, AICP, has joined the Charlotte, North Carolina, office of STV/Ralph Whitehead Associates as a planner. The firm is a 150-person planning, engineering, and construction management group.

Bradley H. Winick, AICP has joined URS Corporation as a principal urban planner in the firm's Chicago office. He was a formerly a principal and senior urban designer at JJR. Winick has two decades of experience leading a variety of urban, open space, and waterfront design projects. He has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Robert C. Davis, AICP is the new director of the Detroit Planning and Development Department. For the past two years, Davis has served as a planning manager with the Wayne County Airport Authority, managing the airport master plans and capital improvement projects. A graduate of Wayne State University, Davis previously worked for the City of Detroit and the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments.

Ann E. Kovich, AICP
Ann E. Kovich, AICPhas joined Halff Associates, Inc. as senior planner and director of business development, working in the Fort Worth, Texas, office. Kovich has 26 years of project management and business development experience in the public and private sectors, including five years as development director for the City of Fort Worth.

Joe Pobiner, AICP
, AICPwas named director of HKS Planning. Pobiner currently leads the firm's planning efforts in markets including healthcare, sports and entertainment, commercial, hospitality, assembly, education, and aviation. Prior to joining HKS, he developed master plans for DFW International Airport and the Superconducting Super Collider.

Susan Traylor Lykes has joined the board of directors of the Orton Family Foundation. The retired APA member is in her third term on the board of the Land Trust Alliance, a national group supporting land conservation in America, and in her fourth term on the board of the Teton Regional Land Trust. In the early 1990s, Lykes worked as a town planner in Park City, Utah.

Alan J. Feltoon, AICP has been promoted to vice president and managing principal for Leo A Daly. Feltoon will oversee the market focus of the firm's 100-person Washington, D.C., office, where he will be responsible for leading and increasing business opportunities, and the overall performance of the office.
