Copyright Compliance
All presenters are responsible for abiding by copyright laws.
- You need permission to use others' work and you must credit them.
This includes photographs; diagrams; excerpted pages from codes or
zoning regulations; any image found online; pictures; scanned copies
or screen captures of printed materials; and any other image or document
that has been created by someone other than you. This also pertains
to conference handouts. Do not distribute written materials for which
you have not obtained permission.
- If you find an image or document that you would like to use, contact
the creator or author! Because you are using the material for educational
purposes, most people and organizations will not charge you for use
of their intellectual property.
- If you have been granted permission
to use another's work, credit the author or creator using a text box
in your presentation or on the handout. Include the author/creator's
name and organization and be sure to note that the material is "used
with permission."
- If you are in doubt about whether your use of
an image or document violates copyright law, DO NOT USE IT.
- For more information about copyright laws, please visit www.copyright.gov. The "Copyright Basics" circular at www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html provides a useful summary of copyright laws.
Poster Session Registration Policy
Registration Options
Full-Paid, Registrant Speaker
If you plan to participate in the entire conference, register online to receive the speaker registration fee of $695. This fee remains in place until online registration closes. Register early in order to secure tickets to popular mobile workshops, evening events, and orientation tours. These ticketed events are available for an additional fee. After online registration closes you must register onsite — if a speaker has not registered before online registration closes, an invoice will be generated and he or she will be expected to pay the conference fee onsite. Speakers that have confirmed their participation but do not attend the conference will be expected to pay the invoice. Send an e-mail to speakerinfo@planning.org if you will not attend the conference.
Non-Paying, Guest Registration
Some poster presenters qualify for a guest registration. The guest registration entitles the presenter to attend the poster session without a fee. The guest registration is valid for presenting that poster only, and the presenter may not attend any other sessions.
The poster session organizer is responsible for requesting guest registration for presenters who qualify. Read both Criterion A and Criterion B below carefully. One of the two criteria must be met to qualify.
Criterion A
The speaker works outside the field of planning and is not a member of APA. Examples are a mayor, a city engineer, or a neighborhood resident.
Criterion B
The speaker is an academic who does not teach planning and is not a member of APA. Someone who teaches economics, for example, would qualify.
Criteria Strictly Enforced, No Exceptions
In order for a presenter to be considered for a guest registration, the poster session organizer must request guest registration when he or she invites the speaker online. Once the form is submitted, staff will review the request and determine whether the speaker qualifies as a guest registrant. If the speaker qualifies, we will send a confirmation letter and further instructions. The guest speaker will pick up a badge onsite that will provide access to the poster exhibits. If a speaker does not qualify, the poster session organizer and speaker will be informed and the speaker will become responsible for paid registration.
