The Indian Trail Planning and Neighborhood Services Department in North Carolina collaborated with the Mayor and the Planning Board to host a Box City event for second grade students at Sardis and Poplin Elementary Schools. Students discussing zoning and land use while considering where to place their buildings within the Box City. Indian Trail Mayor Michael Alvarez leads second grade students at Poplin Elementary in an interactive Box City activity. Second grade students at Poplin and Sardis Elementary Schools develop their own ‘Box Cities’ with small boxes decorated as buildings typically found in within a community. The City of Sanford, Florida’s, Planning Department created a city hall display showing how the community has evolved along with exhibits featuring future projects in the works. Residents can also learn about community planning projects on the city’s new website. The department took a picture in front of this year’s display. More than 400 fifth grade students in Miramar, Florida, will create their vision of Miramar 2040 using LEGOs. The “LEGO Build the Change” event on October 10, 2012, is hosted by the LEGO Company, the City of Miramar, and sponsored by the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.
