Nov. 28--Sometime around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, Metro Transit's 3 billionth customer will board a bus, light rail or commuter rail. That's reason enough for a party.

The winner of a recent essay contest will be announced at 10:30 a.m. at the Uptown Transit Center at 2855 Hennepin Ave. in Minneapolis. "The person will be there, and accept the ceremonial card. Our general manager, Brian Lamb, will be there, and will be joined by Metro Transit employees past and present," said spokesman John Siqveland.

The winner will receive a special Go To card that allows him or her a year's worth of free rides on Metro Transit buses and trains. The original Metropolitan Transit Commission was established in 1967, and an official bus fleet with uniformed drivers was in place by 1972.
