Feb. 13--Jana McCarron, a city planner for the past 10 months, has been promoted to director of Hutchinson's Planning and Development Department, City Manager John Deardoff announced Wednesday.
She succeeds Nancy Scott, who retired at the end of November after serving as planning director for 15 years.
Before coming to Hutchinson, McCarron was city planner for Rock Springs , Wyo., from 2007 to 2013. And before that she worked in the planning department and in the city manager's office for the city of Modesto, Calif.
In Rock Springs, McCarron was instrumental in streamlining operations and approval processes and she directed preparation of a new comprehensive plan for the city, two tasks she'll also oversee in Hutchinson.
"Jana brings a broad range of planning experience to the city which will be beneficial as we look to evaluate our processes, update our subdivision regulations and develop a new comprehensive plan." Deardoff said in a statement. "I am pleased to have Jana join the management team and lead us through some significant planning projects we will be undertaking."
McCarron has a Master's degree in Urban Planning and is a certified planner through the American Institute of Certified Planners.
McCarron said she was excited to accept the new position.
"This is a great city with a lot of assets, wonderful community pride and citizens who genuinely care about one another," she said. "I look forward to the opportunity to build upon this excellent foundation to help grow a city that is truly the gem of south central Kansas -- a City of Choice."
