May 25, 2006 Hillsborough City-County Planning Commission Director President-Elect of APAWASHINGTON, DC — Hillsborough City-County Planning Commission Executive Director, Robert (Bob) B. Hunter, FAICP, has been elected to serve as President-Elect of the American Planning Association (APA), a 39,000-member organization committed to promoting better communities through good planning. Hunter, from Plant City, Florida, will serve one year as president-elect before assuming the presidency for a two-year term. He will be responsible for leading the 13-member APA Board of Directors in setting organizational policies and strategic goals. This is a volunteer position. Hunter has more than 30 years of planning experience spanning private, public, local, regional, state, and national levels. He has served as Executive Director of the Hillsborough City-County Planning Commission for the past 15 years. He previously worked as the Director of Neighborhood Development in Kansas City, Missouri, and as Director of Planning for Reno, Nevada, and San Antonio, Texas. Additionally, he has taught planning courses as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio and the University of Kansas at Lawrence. Hunter is a certified planner and a fellow of APA's professional institute, the American Institute of Certified Planners, the highest honor a professional planner can achieve. A long-standing leader within APA, Hunter has served the organization at the local and national level. He served on state chapter boards for Florida and Texas, and held various positions, including chair of the APA Governance Committee and Secretary/Treasurer of the APA Board of Directors. Hunter earned his master's and bachelor's of Architecture from Texas A&M University. He is on the Board of Directors for the Tampa Lowry Park Zoo, Chair of the Future of Florida American Assembly, and received the Friends of Anthropology 2005 Award from the University of South Florida.
