January 2, 2008 The Benefits of Car-Sharing ProgramsCHICAGO — Car-sharing programs are becoming an important tool to reduce car use and congestion in urban areas. Learn about the I-GO Car Sharing program at the next American Planning Association's Tuesdays at APA forum on January 8, 2008. The discussion begins at 5 p.m. at APA's 122 S. Michigan Ave. conference center. The event is free and open to the public. Sharon Feigon, CEO of I-GO Car Sharing, will discuss how car sharing works, the benefits of such a program, and how these programs influence the urban landscape. I-GO Car Sharing is an affiliate organization of the Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT). Previously Feigon was CNT's Manager of Research and Development, specializing in innovative market-based solutions to the problems of urban sprawl, and she coordinated CNT's transit-oriented development program. Car-sharing programs reduce the demand for parking and enable land devoted to parking to be repurposed. These programs also offer consumer savings and environmental benefits.
