Collaborate
Cutting edge research on best practices in urban and regional planning requires
a close working relationship with planning practitioners, academics, partner
organizations, and funders. Moreover, APA's research agenda is supported by
the great ideas generated from our members and partners across the country.
Send Us What You Are Proud Of
We know you do good work, so help APA continue to be the best source of information
on best practices in planning. Send us innovative plans, ordinances, processes
to engage the public, or anything you feel pushes the profession to new heights.
Your accomplishments will become part of APA's rich collection of materials
in our renowned Merriam Center Library, or be covered in a research publication,
the APA website, a conference session, or Planning magazine.
Planning Advisory Service subscribers, APA editors, writers, and researchers,
and the development community are waiting to hear from you.

Propose a Sponsored Research Project
APA Research welcomes your ideas about possible grant-supported research activities.
Most sponsored projects involve collaboration between our in-house research
staff and outside researchers, authors, or academics. Sponsored research often
results in best practices guidance manuals, PAS Reports, audio conferences,
symposia, or training workshops.

Answer a Request for Information (RFI)
APA Research is looking for communities doing exemplary planning work on specific
topics. Right now, we're seeking communities that have been involved in:
- physical activity planning and design activities that get
people moving
- planning agency consolidation communities that have combined
into one agency any two or more of the following: planning, economic development,
zoning, building, public works, or engineering functions
- smart codes zoning, subdivision, PUD, and unified development
ordinance provisions and amendments that advance smart growth objectives (mixed
land use, compact development, housing choice, walkability, sense of place,
landscape protection, transportation options, expedited decision-making, etc.)
Tell us what you have by contacting us at rfi@planning.org.
Or, alternatively, mail the materials to the address above.
