Table 3j lists 36 issues for which Pacific Islands coastal region respondents were asked to rate priorities for planning practice, analysis, and research. The five issues with the highest percentage of very high or high priority ratings from respondents are:

  1. Land Use Planning/Growth Management (87%)
  2. Flooding/Inundation/Storm Surge (80%)
  3. Conservation (79%)
  4. Cultural and Heritage Resource Management (76%)
  5. Transportation (ground) (69%)

The five issues with the highest percentage of low or very low or "Not Applicable" priority ratings from respondents are:

  1. Commercial Fishing (52%);
  2. Oil/Pollutant Spill Response (49%);
  3. Population Migration (48%);
  4. Submerged Lands Management (45%); and
  5. Subsidence (45%).
