Teaching Kids about Planning, an APA publication from the 1990s inspired by the session that took place at APA's 1990 National Conference in Denver, is still a useful guide for planners today.

The 14-page guide gives planners advice on classroom visits: how to prepare for them, how to organize the day of the visit, how to recruit other planners, if necessary; suggested activities; resources; and so on. The guide also gives tips on how best to convey planning concepts to elementary and high school students and what approach works well for involving as many students as possible in activities and discussions.

Some of the contact information and resource references may be dated, but the general content is very much relevant to today. Teaching Kids about Planning maintains its value as an important APA resource for planners looking to involve youth in the shaping of their communities.
